It seems very wasteful of time and bandwidth to me. Why have that kind of 
churn rate, which you will have if you reach any kind of a niche? It would 
be very difficult to sell ad space if you've got 5000 people subscribing 
and 4000 unsubscribing! I realize that the publicity might be worth it, but 
it seems like a shotgun approach, not a laser approach.

I think the idea might work better if it were segmented, similar to a ring 
of web sites having to do with, say, growing roses. Every list about 
growing roses would share their subscribers with other lists about growing 
roses. The hard core rose-growers would subscribe to and read more than one 
lists. I'm sure that quite a few members of epub also subscribe to Online 
Publishers, since they deal with similar topics. But neither epub nor 
Online Publishers wants to subscribe rose growers to our lists (unless, of 
course, they're also publishing lists about rose growing!).
