[epub] Re: Original Articles In E-zines

Hmmm. Hmmmm......

This is interesting. I've long suspected something that I couldn't really
believe could be true. Reading this thread makes me wonder. The odd
suspicion is that, just perhaps, my high retention rate might be directly
related to the fact that I have a lot of editorial content.

Not that the articles are stale or retreads, but the actual Op/Ed stuff
draws WAY more commentary than even the wholly original articles. (Hey,
how many people write about kitten sales?)

I think they want human perspectives, whether on the subject or just
Life, The Universe, and Everything. Or real nuts and bolts "how to."

An example that fits what Mary mentioned. Lots of people talk about what
to do to write good classified ads. I did a bit on that a couple weeks
ago that used a real example. Best ad I've ever read. And told people why.

THAT got almost as much response as my editorials. It wasn't particularly
brilliant, but it was *different*, and I think that's the reason for the
response.

Mary's right, I think. All the ezines that I read as soon as they drop
into my mailbox have that one thing in common. (Damon Zahariades and
Nancy Roebke are especially good at that.)

Hmmm....

Paul
