[epub] coop advertisers...
From: "Lisa Schmeckpeper" <lrsmarke@lrsmarketing.com>

Hi everyone,

I don't get the chance to post often with my busy schedule
but I do read all that is going on! Great posts :-)

I have a situation I'd like to bring to the attention of
this list because many of you sell advertising in your
ezines. ( no hyphen here Brian :-)

I place advertising for a client of mine in various ezines.
This client is allowed to submit the invoices for
advertisements he placed with me & others to promote the
manufacturer's product for a 50% refund. In other words for
every dollar he spends in advertisements he gets 50 cents
back from the mfg. (pretty good deal huh?)

The first month my client did this things went off without a
hitch. This month the client came back to me and said that
the mfg was giving him grief about every invoice he
submitted. My client now has to go back to every advertiser
or agency he spent money with to try & get the
following......

All the copies of the newsletters with his ads in them.

All the invoices have to be notarized by each ezine or ad
agency.

My client was NOT happy about these
requirements.......neither am I. When my client complained
to the mfg & called their policy unreasonable the mfg said
that this is the way every reputable advertising agency
conducts business with coop ads and that there are even laws
about it.

I guess in the offline world this policy wouldn't surprise
me. BUT... how is this going to affect all of us online? Is
every small ezine publisher supposed to comply with these
rules?

For some ezine owners I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't
even worth their time to accept an advertisement of this
type. Shoot, most ezines I know are lucky to send you an
invoice at all.

Since this is a regular advertiser I will take the expense
of becoming a notary myself just to save the time each
month.

What are your thoughts on this as a list owner selling
advertising and have you ever experienced it before? Has
anyone had a coop advertiser who didn't require this of
them? Anyone know what law these guys are talking about?

Do you always send out an invoice/receipt when someone
advertises with you?

I'm very anxious to hear from you guys! :-)
