Greetings:

I've been lurking for a while and wanted to add something regarding email
list managers. I haven't seen any mention of stand-alone applications that
do the same as the large services. I've started a small and slowly growing
newsletter called "Purchasing Link", dedicated to purchasing and supply
management professionals.

I am using an application called Arrow to manage the list
http://www.jadebox.com/arrow . It is inexpensive, $50 if you have two or
more lists; free if you only have one. It is completely contained on my PC,
no ads, no surveys no nothing to pay the piper. Subscribers can subscribe,
unsubscribe, ask for digests and do all the other things you'd expect. You
can also set it up to process the list automatically at a time you choose.
And I have total control over when the list goes out, how it goes out and so
forth.

Of course, I've got to be careful about backups and take a little more care
of my PC since all the valuable (read:subscriber) information is there. I
run it from a 150 MHz laptop, so I can do list management chores when I
travel. Works over a standard internet connection, though it can be slow to
process a lot of messages if you're stuck at 33.6 like I sometimes am.

It isn't perfect, but it does give you immediate and anytime access to your
list and all the information you need.

So for you control freaks and do-it-yourselfers try Arrow if you don't like
the commercial approach.
