RE: [epub] AddMe Newsletter - How Accurate?
From: "Thomas Bihl" <tbihl@bizjunction.com>

I also agree wholeheartedly with strictly opt in subscriptions. But
you forgot one other line in the block that explains how "you
subscribed" to the list - or you belong to the same safe list
of which I'm a member.

I have also noticed that just about all of my auto responders have
subscribed to newsletters at one time or an other. Then when you
email the offender asking they take the responder off their list - the
reply is usually - your address is not subscribed - duuhh! It's not
my return address fool - it's my wayward auto responder that did
not have my permission to subscribe.

Anymore, when someone starts sending a newsletter to my
responders I just report them for spamming. After all, when
the subscription just suddenly appears - they have to be using
a list of extracted email addresses.

This brings up another point. Automation is sought after
so that time can be spent building instead of maintaining
a list. No one seems to actually read or look at the emails
that come back with REMOVE in the subject line. Also, if
the return address is not listed as the subscriptions address
(in the case of auto responders it would not be) then the remove
is ignored, the email is not read and you now have one very
angry person still receiving unwanted newsletters. This person
will certainly tell others of the unprofessional actions of this
publisher. IMO this publisher is damaging his reputation.

Sorry, I didn't mean to ramble this long - but I, for one, will not
patronize any business that uses tactics such as this. Opt
in only may be slower, but the folks that are there want to be there.

My 2 cents worth!
They are not frustrated deleters.
