[epub] question
From: namethatmovie <namethatmovie@netconnect.com.au>

Hello.

Please excuse me for going off topic here but I would really appreciate some help,
please. I send a newsletter twice a week that involves a guessing competition. I
have always advertised that there would be no prizes awarded, since I live in
Australia and most, if not all, prizes would be being sent to the US - but the game
has grown more than I ever expected it would. I have a Hall of Fame at my site
where the scores from the preceding round are added and I do that twice a week.

My current plan is, at the end of December, to start everyone from scratch since
there are many subscribers who have't got a hope of ever getting near the top. The
lady who is winning the competition has been with me since two weeks after I
started so has a very "unfair" advantage - for want of a better phrase - over most
of the other players.

While I haven't received any complaints, I realise that that will get boring after
a while when you are consistently getting perfect scores yet getting nowhere on the
Hall of Fame.

I have decided to reset all the scores back to zero but also decided I would like
to award some prizes for the winner at the end of each year only. My problem is
that I would really like to start getting some sponsors in who wouldn't mind
supplying a once off prize, or, at worst, a prize once per year. Having no
experience in this department, I would love some advice on places to try, how tro
tactfully ask for a handout or three and how to just as tactfully explain to them
that the best I can do is to give them a link on the prize winners page we are
planning. For some reason, any banner we have tried to add, just does not wortk but
I believe that is because the site is done in Publisher to make it visually
impaired and webtv accessible. I am more than happy to give free ads and a
permanent link to anyone who can help but I have also heard stories that most
places like this won't even look at you if you have less than 2,000 subscribers and
most even want a minimum of 5,000. Me, I have 755 at the time of writing and have
only been going since March 1999.

Any advice or tips anyone can help me with are much appreciated and, if you prefer,
I don't mind if you write privately to save taking too much list space.

Thank you in advance. Sandy.
