Hi Bruce and everyone;

Well actually when I call them feeders, this is a term
I use, I really don't know what the proper term would be.

Doorway pages would be pages that lie directly within
the site you are wanting to promote, or at least I assume
that, and are not what I term feeder sites. A feeder site
to me would be a seperate domain and not just an html page
as a doorway page would be.

I don't use doorway pages as such, at least not yet, because
I do have the many domains. David Carter had an excellent
piece in his Web Essentials Newsletter demonstrating doorway
pages as he mentioned in his post. Definitely worth reading.

At some point I will probably start incorporating doorway
pages into my marketing plan since they can be very effective.

I use "feeder" domains because I can fill them with content,
and they can become an excellent source of visitors, and there
is no fear of spamming a search engine. Since the domain stands
on its own name, unlike doorway pages which point to the same
domain in the search engines, feeder domains point to themselves
in the search engine. Granted they can be more expensive since
doorway pages cost nothing, but one good feeder domain can fund
several others. Maybe I can patent that term "feeder domain" like
Amazon.com is claiming "One Click Technology" as theirs....grin..

Actually with feeder sites you could have many doorway pages within
each feeder site that feeds them, then they in turn feed your primary
domain, thus multiplying your search engine exposure and still less
likelihood of spamming the SE.

Anyway I'll shut up now, I know this is probably getting off topic
of the scope of ePub's intended target. Of course these methods
can be applied to publishing as well.

Thanks;
Gary
