some of my AOL subscribers tell me that my HTML version comes as
an attachment.  Apparently anything over a specified size (20kb?
25kb? I don't know) is automatically converted into an
attachment.
Also, AOL has a "feature" that allows users to indicate they only
accept mail from people on their special friends list, preventing
spam and junk.  Subscribers need to remember to add you to their
special list.
