Re: [epub] Publishing Multiple Newsletters....
From: Bobbi Chukran <bobbi.chukran@mindspring.com>

Howdy e-pubbers:

Thanks to all who have answered my questions about publishing multiple
newsletters. At this time, I've decided to wait on the second one simply
because I see so many promotional opportunities for the first one that I'll
never have time to do them all. In the past, I haven't concentrated enough
on one venture long enough to see it pay off--I'm going to try and do that
with this newsletter.

Several of you have asked me how I got my subscribers so far. As of today,
a little over a month since I started my newsletter, I have over 540
subscribers. I got these by participating in special interest gardening
mailing lists, and groups where gardeners hang out, and what I call
"margin" groups, where there are people who are interested in some of the
other things I'm interested in. In other words, I join niche groups and
participate.

I also have good luck exchanging ads, or editorial mentions, with other
newsletters on these subjects. And I've posted free ads on arts and crafts
bulletin boards and freebie ad sites. One thing I haven't done much of is
post announcements on various newsgroups--I've been told that works well,
too.

As of yesterday, I have a new bulletin board of my own in conjunction with
CraftyCollege.com, the company I'm doing some on-line teaching for. I've
already gotten subscribers from that, too, and I imagine that I'll get many
more.

I call it "grassroots" promotion, and so far, it's worked really well for
me. I even had a paid ad in the second issue of my newsletter, so I'm sure
eventually that will build up, too.

I do think, though, that the whole key to this is my niche group. I'm not
so sure that I could get the same response if I were to do a web marketing
newsletter, for example.
