Re: [epub] Are Publishers destroying Their Own Trustworthiness?
From: "Penny Widell" <pennydw@wcenet.com>

Hi Everyone,

Let it be known that I am not a publisher yet, hope to be one
soon.

I would never do this as,I feel it violates my privacy.
There are ways to do this and let people decide for themselves.
All you would have to do is send out an exclusive or endorsement
for the other editor and let people subscribe if they want to.
That way you wouldn`t loose your creditability and the other
editor would get some new subscribers.

This would be like when you submit to ad pages or ffa and get
your name put on their newsletters without permission for them
to do it. All of my submissions to go a dump mailbox and the
newsletters that are sent there a deleted too.

I haven`t had it happen to me yet,but if it does I would unsubscribe
to both newsletters.

I would think the one that gave the address away would big
time, people wouldn`t be very ready to trust him again with their
information. I know I wouldn`t.

No I wouldn`t change it to say that, all we can hope for is
that, the publishers that are doing this will realize that they
are hurting themselves and everyone else on the web.

If you had a dsclaimer like that I wouldn`t sign up for your
newsletter. As I don`t think you should be able to tell me or
sign me up for a newsletter that I may not want. That would be
like telling me you know better what I need to read than I do!

I probably shouldn`t put my 2cents in as I am not a publisher
yet and am taking this so I can learn, more of the problems of
being a publisher.

But as I am a subscriber I think that it would be okay to get a
different prospective.
