[epub] Managing marketing lists

Is there a difference between mailing lists and marketing lists? (Is that too 
dumb a question?) 

I'm a newbie to electronic marketing of newsletters. I need some software -- 
or a supplier -- to manage a database of e-mail names which I use to solicit 
paid subscriptions. So it needs to accept "Remove me from this list" 
responses and accept orders (just names & addresses at this point -- no 
credit cards), and remove non-deliverable names.

I tried to look at pegasus, but the site was blocked (by AOL?). And Aureate 
looks like just a way of putting ads into electronic newsletters -- not a 
source for managing my marketing database.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
