I've followed the discussion about email programs
that run your lists off your own server/PC.

While there is much to be said in favor of each, when
your list gets large (over 1000 members), you'll hate
yourself for trying to do all the list management stuff
yourself.  It is far, far better to leave this to the list
management software or service, and to automate
the process of subscribing and unsubscribing.  The
time drain could be enormous, not to mention the
costs and time of distributing to larger lists over a
home Internet connection - dial up, cable, or even ISDN.

And if you are thinking that 1000 members is a far
off dream - STOP.  You never know, your list could get
a sudden plug or promotion somewhere and abruptly
the numbers could go up.  Forewarned is forearmed.
And being forearmed (with an automated service) allows
you to expand rapidly when a chance arises.
