EPUB Archives [Thread Prev][Thread Next][Thread]Re: [epub] Domain hosting and hosting services??
From: dots@dreamink.com Debbie and Ray, Finding reliable, value-priced webhosting can be a tricky job. With thousand of available options, it's hard to sift out the hype. I've come to the conclusion after three years of searching for myself, and placing clients with a number of webhosts, that the best criteria for that decision is the availablity of free telephone technical support. Why? Because when my site is down, I want to know why. Now. And I don't want to wait for the parent hosting site to come back up in order to do that. 24 hours without an explanation is my personal limit for switching webhosts, Ray. Every webhost should have procedures in place to be able to notify their customers of difficulties within that span of time. Debbie, there is no such thing as "unlimited traffic". There are claims made to that effect all the time, however, you'll find that 99% of webhosting contracts place a price on varying degrees of "unlimited". Search for a webhost that offers enough bandwidth for your immediate needs, and projected needs for one year. At that point you'll probably need to re-evaluate and perhaps upgrade hosting packages. ISP Check - http://www.ispcheck.com/ - offers an online database for searching for web hosting. My own recommendation for most reliable web-hosting (I've placed half-dozen clients with them with ZERO downtime over one year) would be Jumpline. Their $14.95/month hosting package has all the bells and whistles including 30M and 3G/month traffic. My own site is maintained on a different webhost. I'd be happy to provide a reference (and detailed experience) offlist if you would like to contact me.
