I sent the following note to Darren Roberts and Robert
Caruthers this morning, after being informed of yet another
"list swap" game going on. I have received no response as yet.
As I get proof like this, I'll continue to post it publicly.
Darren,
I got a copy of your "Welcome To Internet Insider Wealth
Secrets" greeting from one of my subscribers. I haven't had
time to read my newsletters lately, but I'm going to assume
that I got one of these also, having been subscribed to
"AAvenues 2 Your Success" for quite some time. That's not
particularly important, of course, as it doesn't change your
actions.
We did not request this subscription. It is bulk, it is
unsolicited, and it is surely email. You know what that makes
it. And what sending it makes both you and Mr Caruthers....
Not only are you spamming, you have violated the trust of
every one of your combined subscribers. I quote from many
past issues of your newsletter:
SENT BY SUBSCRIPTION ONLY
Are we now to assume that means only that it's okay to send
if ANYONE, including the publisher, has subscribed us?
Not only are you taking action that works to undermine the
trust of the average Internet user in email in general, but you
are specifically and actively working to undermine the trust
they place in newsletter publishers.
You have demonstrated that I cannot trust you to keep my
email address private. You clearly can't resist the temptation
to share something that simple with another publisher for your
own gain. May I ask, given this information, why I should
believe that you would keep something much more lucrative
any more confidential? Like payment information for one of
your products, for example?
Please unsubscribe me from your newsletter. I am subscribed
as paul@talkbiz.com. Mr Caruthers, please do the same.
I shall be posting a note to my newsletter subscribers,
retracting the endorsement I gave you in a past issue, and
sending a copy of this to one of the popular e-publisher lists.
I also intend to unsubscribe you from any lists handled at my
server, at least one of which I believe you to be subscribed to.
Don't come back. You're not welcome. I don't associate with
spammers.
I'm disappointed. I had thought you were better than this.
Mr Caruthers: I'm going to make the assumption that the JD
after your name means that you're a lawyer, or at least have a
law degree. I suggest that you check into the laws regarding
the sending of unsolicited commercial email. Especially the
one in Connecticut. A friendly heads-up, as it were...
Before it comes up: "Just unsubscribe" doesn't cut it. I
shouldn't have to spend my time unsubscribing from every
zine or other list that someone else decides I should be
subscribed to...
