Re: [epub] Web Theft
From: "Ben Park" <mail-in@siteria.net>

haha - I have a few ideas as to what you can do, and they could be quite fun
to watch the results.
They are a bit of a nuisance to do, but here goes : -

My 5 tips to stop the thieving buggers!
----------------------------------------------------

1. Rename the images that they are stealing, so that their links no longer
work, and change the pages of your site, so the images still look as they
should.

2. Get some javascript disabling the right mouse button on all your web
pages (this will stop them knowing what you've renamed the images
to......temporarily)
I say temporarily because they can still use File-Magnet to find out the
location of images on your site, or do File, Save-as and save the web page,
then look for the links themselves in a html editor.

3. If they are banners they are stealing, then try rotating them (with more
javascript) every so often, so that it advertises your web site - if they're
gonna do it to you, you might as well get some credit.

4. Try doing a kind of ghost effect of your logo or web site name in every
picture, so that people viewing them know exactly where they came from.

5. Sit back and watch the fun. You'll probably find that the people who are
stealing your images don't update their website very often, so after word
gets around that there are many empty parts where there should be images,
people will stop visiting their web site. And it teaches them right!!

You will find that people will still search your site to find out the names
of your images - these people - there really isn't much you can do. They are
pro-thieves, and they will stop at nothing. Oddly tho - they will probably
spend more time trying to steal your images than if they just put them on
their own site to start with. Amazing how much trouble people will go to.

BTW - are the images' copyrighted to you? - If so - just threaten legal
action - they'll most probably stop showing them, cause let's face it - the
big men (and women - don't wanna be sexist here : ) don't need to steal
other people's work....he/she has his/her own images.

Altho - the big corporation does need to blatantly copy some web browser
software and give it away for free to try and put the original company out
of business......not naming any names.....*cough* microsoft *cough*

We all know the biggest men/women in this world just buy out their
competition, like certain ISP's buying out people searching software, cause
people wouldn't use that particular ISP's own people searching
software....*cough* AOL *cough* - I must see the Dr about all this
coughing.... : )

Hope that helps!

Ben
