I'll vouch for that.  We place a lot of ads in newsletters in our network
and send ads to JP on a regular basis  because he stays in good contact and
is always making a pitch for us to fill his space.  Because his newsletter
works well for us and because he is so accommodating, its tempting to go
ahead and run an extra spot or two with him when we can.  At the very least
he is fresh in mind for our normal network runs.

I think you'll find that this is true not only in advertising but all sales.
Realize that when you are selling ad space you are SELLING a product.  You
cannot just list in directories and wait for the customer to find you any
more than a regular business could just get a listing in the phone book and
expect good sales. It helps but is only part of the job.

From an advertiser viewpoint I definitely say that staying in contact and
pounding the pavement is the best way to keep your space booked. Especially
for general market type publications.  Too bad it is not as easy as listing
in directories - or we'd all be rich!
