EPUB Archives [Thread Prev][Thread Next][Thread]Re: [epub] Links in newsletters
Many of us have had similar problems (extremely long URLs) when sending
folks to our Amazon or Barnes and Noble links or other places.
I solved it by creating a redirect webpage. Not only does it make a
quick-n-easy way to include links in Two Scoops, but when they click on the
link, it records a hit on my web logs, so I can instantly see how many
people have clicked thru to some other place. For example, in my
newsletter I just put:
Get your copy of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Changing Careers, by
William Charlandright here: http://www.twoscoops.com/rd/idcar.html
which redirects after 1 second to:
http://bn.bfast.com/booklink/click?sourceid=27217697&ISBN=0028619773
You can see what a difference the URL is!!
The whole page code looks like this: (By the way, it came from William
Bontrager at www.willmaster.com, if I remember correctly) :
=========begin code (excluding this line)=========
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>redirect to: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Changing Careers
William Charland</TITLE>
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh"
Content="1;URL=http://bn.bfast.com/booklink/click?sourceid=27217697&ISBN=002
8619773">
</HEAD>
<BODY>
<p>If your browser does not take you there, click here to purchase your
own copy of
<A
HREF="http://bn.bfast.com/booklink/click?sourceid=27217697&ISBN=0028619773">
<IMG
SRC="http://bn.bfast.com/booklink/serve?sourceid=27217697&ISBN=0028619773"
BORDER="0" WIDTH="1" HEIGHT="1">The Complete Idiot's Guide to Changing
Careers
William Charland</A>
</BODY>
</HTML>
==========end code (exclude this line)=============
Hope this helps,

Subject: [epub] Links in newsletters
| Hi all, I'm trying to figure out a fast, efficient way to allow
| readers to forward my individual newsletter items to their
| friends and, more importantly, their discussion lists without
| asking them to forward the entire publication, which is frowned
| upon by most lists. I've seen the links that lead to a 'refer-it'
| page or something similar, but I'd like to use a simple mailto:
| link pre-formatted with the recipient left blank, my newsletter
| name as the subject and a link to the appropriate feature on a
| web page in the body. My reasoning is that more items would get
| forwarded if the reader can remain within their email client,
| instead of going to a web page. I know how to do the formatting
| but, one problem: The link becomes quite long, won't wrap and
| messes up an otherwise perfectly formatted newsletter. Any
| suggestions?
|
| Jessica
