| As someone stated, 5 or 6 responses out of 40 is probably the norm. Is
| their a more effective way to get articles in front of publishers that
| won't take Dale 5 hours?

1. subscribe to as many (and as varied) newsletters/ezines as you can
tolerate and have time to peruse; look for niche markets.

2. get a flavor for what each one publishes -- content, style, editorial
bent, etc. This way you can re-work an article to tailor it for that
audience, if necessary.

3. build a relationship with publishers BEFORE asking a stranger to print
your articles; i.e., if an article in an ezine hits home for you, makes you
think, or just enlightened you, speak up and thank the publisher for it.
Put your Self in front of the publisher before dropping your article to him.
S/he will be more likely to read material from a fellow publisher and email
acquaintance than from something "slipped under the door". (I often ignore
unsolicited stuff.)

4. ask if you can publish one of THEIR articles in YOUR publication; and/or
suggest an article swap (but beware the thinly veiled advert-article, of
course!)
