EPUB Archives [Thread Prev][Thread Next][Thread]Re: [epub] Digital voice recording suggestions?
Hi Ann Any recorder, digital or analog that has an audio input jack can be used with a normal phone line but in order to do what you want to do there are two other items you will need: 1. A voice recognition program. I use Dragon Dictate Preferred (a colleague uses IBM Via Voice); both are NOT perfect and require extensive and repetitive training. Thats when you sit and recite inane paragraphs of text to allow the software to "train" itself to your voice. Then it works (75%). Having to recognise a variety of different voices - as I assume will be the case if you do interviews - is iffy at best. The results will be amusing sometimes, hilarious others; Correct - rarely. 2. Another item will be a cheap ($2-$5) little interface that hooks into your handset jack on the phone (where the coiled cord connects into the phone) and has a parallel male mini-jack to go into your audio input n the recorder. This is usually available in the phone accessory section at Radio Shack, Tandy and similar electronics stores. 3. Finally, I think it is a legal requirement to inform your interviewee that you have recording device attached to your phone and to get their consent. I hope I've been of some help. If you need more info please email me off-list and I'll be happy to guide you.
