We purchased and have used MailKing.  Whilst it does the job, it is quite basic.  It has no bounce management or similar tools.  It basically provides a front end for an Access database and we have found that it is much better to do the list management in Access rather than in MailKing.

It provides a mail merge capability to individualize e-mail messages but, in my oppinion, is certainly not a long term solution if your requirements are anything other than quite basic.  

It does however provide a cheap alternative for basic usage.  Documentation is poor and at times it has been a real trial and error, fumble around to and see to get it to do what we want.
