I'm an e book publisher, http://www.charmwrite.com, Charm Write Publishing,
and I publish books on a 60/40 or 60/30 split of the royalties, dependant on
what services the author is in need of. I publish books on a variety of
subjects.

There are a lot of things involved other than just providing the publishing
itself. You can't expect to put a website up and think you are going to have
authors or buyers come running. It's largely a matter of finding the right
avenues to promote yourself through the web. Lists are certainly a good
start, but it takes a lot of time and creativity to come up with those
things that are going to work for you, especially if you don't have a large
advertising budget and have to rely on free advertising.

Starting a newsletter or ezine helps, placing banners and links on others'
websites, getting listed in on line publications and directories, posting to
newsgroups, and  in general creating an on line presence is absolutely
essential to e publishing. As far as stats, well, lets be honest, no one is
really making a fortune, other than some pretty well connected people. Those
of us that are starting at the bottom floor have to have patience, and spend
a lot of time on promotions and marketing for it really to end up being a
viable product to offer.
