I should have more strongly emphasized that these are a waste FOR ME.... many
others enjoy them, and those who publish such things do so for their own
reasons.  if they weren't getting what they wanted out of the effort, they
wouldn't be doing it, so please don't assume I'm dismissing or devalueing the
work of others -- it simply isn't useful to me personally.
