[epub] Switching a subscriber list to a free service
I really need the advice of you wise ones.

I have a site that's only been up on the Web about a month, and the first
issue of my ezine will go out by the end of November. Instead of signing up
with one of the free list services right off the bat (my first mistake), I
collected the subscriptions at the site and sent out my own autoresponder
"thank you for subscribing" confirmation message -- figuring I'd just use the
e-mail list feature on my Mindspring web hosting account to send out the
ezines. Well, now that my initial site promotion efforts are beginning to pay
off and I'm getting more and more subscribers every day, managing the
subscription list is getting to be too time consuming.

But if I now import my subscriber list to a list at one of the free services,
all the subscribers are going to get a notification from that service asking
them to confirm their subscriptions yet again, right? (Am I right or wrong
about that? I tried testing it on a small number of addresses at egroups;
some people got a message from them, some didn't.) Since my subscribers
haven't even received their first issue of my ezine yet, I'm afraid they'll
feel harassed and I'll lose them before I even start. Can't afford that! Need
every subscriber I can get.

What do you think I should do? Import the list now (and change the
subscription set-up on my site), or send out the first issue the way I
originally planned -- and put a notice in it telling people that I'm moving
the list to egroups and they may have to respond to an egroups confirmation
request?

Maybe I'm worrying about nothing here, but I'd like your experienced take on
it. Thanks. And sorry this was such a long message!

Katherine
