I suppose I will answer my own question. 

I went ahead and signed up for google and it's impressive.  The one 
drawback is it appears to be completely overloaded right now and 
difficult to access.  But the ability to focus when the ad appears based 
on the visitor's search criteria is very nice.  I set my ad to be very 
focused and have gotten a 10% clickthrough rate so far.
