I'm sure there are a great many text editors that will handle it. I want to
recommend arachnophilia http://www.arachnoid.com/arachnophilia/index.html .
It is free. The guy who built it calls it "Careware"

Click to the url for a list of features. I will just say that I have used it
for over 2 years. I have used the "Find and Replace" feature to globally
edit over 80 pages in about 2.5 minutes. (I have got it to do the same for
over 500 files at once, this machine really groans :)

Additionally, I have found it can open almost any kind of file (reading the
language is another story). Although I have found a few shortcomings, at
least the copy I have includes instructions for the tekno-gifted for tearing
it apart and rebuilding it to do anything but the dishes.

I copied this into arachnophilia and edited out 12 instances of ">" in a
split second. (I copied it out of Torrey's response):
