But worth trying I guess as it has been a slow first-quarter. The most effective way of pulling in subscribers is paying for it, whether through an affiliate program or advertising campaign. Pay-per-click search engines and the like just never work out. I set up monitored links and found that about 12 percent from GoTo.com converts and less than 1 percent of traffic from other search engines (like FindWhat.com, ePilot, etc.) convert. The figure was close to zero percent for incentivized traffic (reward programs are a waste - they produce traffic and NOTHING else. If you use them, monitor traffic for conversion as they will not convert -- at all). My red flag alert goes crazy at less than 1 percent conversion as we're talking $1 per subscriber or more at .01 per click (and many were for more than that with "ezines" and targeted keywords). Your risk with an affiliate program is minimal. You only pay for subscribers -- and most will have fraud prevention in place so the same IP address can't plug in names all day. If you feel you can't afford a programmer to get you up and running (integrating you with a good affiliate program such as cj.com or clickxchange.com) but are spending more than $100 a month on per-click Search Engine listings, I say you can't NOT afford to use an affiliate program. My programmer charged less than $100 to integrate DayTips with ClickXchange and also with cj.com. This is not rocket science. Traffic now is minimal as I've gone from .50 per subscriber down to .10 over the past year. As you can imagine, I was gaining a lot of subs at .50 but was also selling out my ad space. Now is a different story.
