I have the same problem when I send out my newsletters The Cruise Chef and 
FairWinds:Small Ship News, Deals & Discounts. We usually have recipes and 
other items that use symbols and I also like to write in a casual friendly 
style which uses a lot of apostrophes, which bring on the weird hieroglyphics 
and % signs. The only way I have solved the problem is to write around it. I 
now say cannot instead of can't, ignore spostrophe for possessive case, and 
other nasty things... but it works.
