I also have to jump in here too since I am planning to do a paid
newsletter myself related to ebooks.  Newsletters are not
just for promoting your site, but I feel as if they can serve a
purpose to educate people on a targeted topic.  The amount of
time that I will spend researching for this new newsletter is not worth
it if I gave away the information for free... I don't plan to include
ads or solo ads so there will not be additional income from
the newsletter.  Plus, I plan to pay the writers who contribute
their articles to my publication and offer sponsorships to other
publications for contests etc.

I think there is definitely a market for paid newsletters just
like there are markets for paid ebooks, private membership
sites, and shareware software etc.
