[epub] text editor v. word processors

I note that the suggestions for an ezine are to use a text editor instead of
a word processing program. Is that everyone's consensus? It just seems to
me that a text editor is so limited in terms of formatting that it would
quickly become visually very boring. And doesn't just about everyone use MS
Word? on their PCs or have the ability to read Word docs?
