[epub] Improving Confirmation Rates

Homefires Hearth has been experiencing very fast and very good growth
lately.  Since we have our own list server, I'm able to check out
every single sub and unsub request and I've noticed that at least 1/3
of the sub requests go unconfirmed.

Is there any way of improving the confirmation rates either by writing
those who've not responded within a certain time, say 3 days, or by
rewording my confirmation request letter?  Any ideas?  I refuse to go
to a single opt-in method.
