Good question!

In my experience, people subscribe to newsletters so the
information comes to them rather than them having to go to the
information. It's much more convenient to have the newsletter
delivered than to remember to check the site regularly.

Archives also demonstrate that you're publishing regularly and
that what you're publishing is worth reading. It helps overcome
reluctance to sign up. I'd say this was particularly important in
your field, Michael, since you're competing with hundreds of
"marketing" newsletters, all promising more or less the same.

They also get picked up by search engines, and people link to
them, bringing you extra traffic. And of course you can refer to them in
future newsletters ("If you missed the review of XYZ, you can see it at
http://www....)

So I tend to be in favor of them.
