[epub] ON - Line eZines vs. Email versions
 >> Just a note of consideration. I subscribe to all of my eZines through
 >> either a yahoo account or a hotmail account.

Dawn,

I take issue with your reasoning for using a free web-based account as a subscribe address. As both a publisher and a subscriber to newsletters (over 100 of them - all of them from either an ISP or one of my web site addresses), I find that most people who use free web based accounts do not even bother to read the newsletters they receive to that address.

I try to discourage my subscribers from using especially Hotmail or Yahoo or zwallet or themail, because of issues like autoresponders (I do not tolerate autoresponses from my subscribers) or other delivery issues that these services raise.

When I see a subscriber with a web-based address, it tells me that more than likely they are not interested in the content at all, but only subscribed to get a free ad. Usually they are gone within a week, thereby confirming my suspicions.

There ARE exceptions to this, but not many.

I think that if you are a publisher, you might want to rethink using a free web-based address for your subscriptions.

And as far as getting spam because of a subscription to a newsletter, I'm inclined to think that most of the spam you receive at your hotmail or yahoo account is due more to the account provider than any of your newsletter subscriptions.

I think if you changed your subscriptions to say, Dawn@yourdomainname, your spam would drop considerably. Of course the Yahoo or Hotmail account would continue to get spam, but these accounts are notorious for that. I have my own opinion on why that is, but that's for a different forum than this one.
