Mark you bring up some interesting points.  But what about if you are
creating something that your readers would want to print out and read away
from their computer and offline?  It depends on your readers as you say, but
they may be more receptive to that.  What about publishing it in plain text
email with a URL at the top of it that points to a PDF version that they can
download if they choose to do so and want a printable version?
