You're right..

You could look at it like this also, the harder you make it for people to
subscribe the more sure you will be of them really wanting to subscribe
and not just looking for another freebie. Hence they will only stick around
if your contents is up to par.

Not really, because the people that I want as subscribers read and
produce PDF files all the time. You see my subscribers and readers
are electronic pulbishers or they wish to become an epublisher.
