I can only give you a comparison of a Word file and a PDF file since they
are what I use. The Word file is smaller about 100K  with the
same content as the PDF file..But here's why the PDF file is a bit larger.

It includes my bookmarks and a couple of fonts. So if I cut the fonts and
bookmarks, the PDF file  would be smaller in size by about 200K...
