RE: [epub] Archives
::I disagree with this. I don't post ANY samples. You want to see
::my ezine, then you have to give me something in return - your
::email address and your name at least.

How would you feel if when you went to the shopping mall and had to fill out
an application at every single store *just to walk inside and browse?*
Don't you think that your potential readers would prefer *no obligation* to
subscribe to your newsletter?

::Doing what you do to get access to the archives to me is, forgive
::the bluntness, unprofessional. How would you feel if several
::hundred people a day did that on YOUR list? You ARE a publisher, I assume.

I don't subscribe and immediately unsubscribe for the sole purpose of
accessing the archives. By subscribing and gaining access to the archives,
I can see the past issues. If I don't like what I see, I can unsubscribe.
In getting a package from someone, don't you open it and inspect it to see
that you got what you ordered? If it wasn't what you ordered, wouldn't you
send it back?

Correct, I am a publisher of a relatively small list. My archives used to
be for members only. I would have several people in a week to subscribe and
almost immediately unsubscribe. Once I made my archives public, this
stopped. (The very reason I changed from private to public archives is
because several other E-zine publishers I spoke with had the same problem.)

**These questions are for everyone**
-Why do you provide archives?

I do it for potential subscribers...to give them some forsight into what
they'll be getting if they subscribe. I also do it for my present
subscribers; if they want to look back and see something that ran a few
weeks ago, they can just look in the archives.

-Why do you choose to make your archives public or private?

Like I said, my 'Zines are public so that potential subscribers can view
them. I've got nothing to hide.

I can see a few instances as to why someone would want to keep their 'Zine
archives private...say if they were for a civic organization who kept their
minutes there and the only people that needed to see them were the ones that
were subscribed. Any other reasons for keeping archives private?
