[epub] Ezine Subscriptions

I have to agree. Why would people want to sign up subscribers 
without their permission? Do they think quantity is better 
than quality?

I actually want my ezines read and prefer readers who want 
to subscribe and enjoy the ezines.

I love your question that you posed to the group.  That issue has come up for 
me a number of times being on the receiving end and is a real trigger point.  

In the most recent situation, I downloaded an e-book from someone's web site 
and in very fine print (I later found out) said downloading the e-book 
automatically subscribed me to their ezine.  I sent them a friendly note 
letting them know that leaves a bad impression with me and felt maniupulated 
by not giving me the choice, no matter how good their ezine info.  I know for 
me that is enough reason not to do business with someone.  I took the time 
sharing that feedback with them since I know that there are others who feel 
the same but don't say anything and just "leave."

Another recent situation is some automatically subscribed me to their ezine 
because I signed up for one of their free teleclasses.  I gave similar 
feedback.

In tersm of my own ezine, I am a very strong advocate of "permission 
marketing."  I don't assume anything whether my ezine subscribers are open to 
additional mailings  from me beyond my ezine.  How I handle it is have a 
separate mailing list that I promote in the ezine called "Preferred 
Subscriber" list where I provide announcements of special offerings from 
myself and other business vendors, and special one time announcements, beyond 
what I post in my ezine.
