I echo Clay's comments with this fact from our history:

Back in 1996,97,98 and part of 1999 when SparkLIST ran a souped
up Majordomo (pre-Lyris days), we invested well over $225,000 into
programming labor to modify Majordomo to be more of the kind of
list server we wanted.  It never made it to be even close to what
Lyris is, which is why we dropped the hybrid domo that we had
invested so much into for so many years.
