Got an Ezine Marketing |
EPUB Archives [Thread Prev][Thread Next][Thread][epub] Re: Ezine Subscriptions
Hi. >Same here, which is why a few months ago I went to single opt-in for >subbing and unsubbing. Unsubbing is now as simple as one email. No >more confirms to overlook or claim got lost. As a strong proponent of the double opt-in method of ezine sign ups, I'd like to say that while a single opt-in strategy is simple and gets more subscribers in a hurry, it has some glaring long term problems. For an in-depth look at them, request my article on the subject off autoresponder by sending any email to double-opt-in@ezinemarketingcenter.com >I used to be a huge proponent of double opt-in, but it was a big pain in >the rear for me with the multitude of people incapable of reading a >message and hitting reply to unsub. It might be true. But unless your ezine has no purpose, you would do well to target a particular niche audience. And unless your target audience is one which is so inexperienced with email that it cannot respond to a confirmation request, you'll end up with a bunch of subscribers who couldn't care less about the message of your ezine. For many ezine publishers, growing list size seems to be the all important issue. It is my experience that a *responsive* list requires a more steady, selective and thoughtful growth process. You can't simply sign up people right, left and center and then hope to achieve response rates of 23% when you send out a special offer to your readers. The power of ezine marketing lies in its targetability. By adding another *hurdle* in the form of a double opt-in process, you are further enhancing the value of your list. If someone cares enough about your list to request to join it *twice*, they are logically more interested prospects. >and even if they replied, at least 1/3 replied improperly (deleting the >confirmation number in the subject line, using a different addy to >reply, etc.) An added benefit to the list owner by using double opt-in. Otherwise, this is time you'll be spending hunting for the subscriber's email >address when they request to unsubscribe after a few issues! Net-net, double-opt in has significant advantages to the serious ezine publisher. I strongly recommend it.
