I think Debbie was talking about spammers getting hold of the submit,
join,
feedback and reply addresses that she puts into each newsletter, not
subscribers. At least, that's how I interpreted it. Am I butting in
here,

Yup.  That's it.  My ezine is pretty large and we depend upon reader
contributions and feedback.  That's what makes it work like it does.
I'm no expert in the field of homemaking (you should see my house!), but
my talent lies in being a good editor.  To make submitting information
easier, I've got a slew of forwarding addresses I use so they'll just
sort into their own email boxes and I can respond to them later.  Plus
my two assistants have their own forwarding email addies to keep their
normal ones private.

What's happening is that we're getting spammed on every blasted email
addy that's listed in my ezine, including the two not listed in the
welcome letter.  Everything but the unsub addy is being harvested.  Its
bad enough getting one spam, but getting 8 of the exact same one is a
royal pain.

My listhost is also my webhost and I have lots of control over the
addies coming into my list.  I check each request out before deleting
it.  If I get one that says, "GET 100,000 HITS A DAY ON YOUR
SITE!!!!!!!", I'll ban that addy.  But they'll have already gotten my
welcome letter.  But if someone joins quietly and then uses HH to
harvest my submit addies from, its really frustrating.
