Actually Mani,

I have experienced many emails from people
who feel they can just invite me to join
their group. They obviously harvest the
email addresses from other groups and send
all those addresses an invitation to their
new group.

I think Yahoo groups offers this. You actually
submit a list of email addresses and they mass
mail the invitation. What is that all about?

I find this offensive and I find it to be
spam. If I wanted to join the group I would
have. Anyone else feel like this?

Hopefully, I haven't misunderstood the original
question about Topica.com sending out invitations.

As I have experienced on Topica, when a publisher
sets up a list, s/he is given an opportunity to tell
some friends about it.  The friend has to then
confirm his/her intention to stay subscribed,
and then the subscription is confirmed.

As far as I'm aware, Topica never sends out mail
on their own to promote a particular list/ezine.
The invitation is merely a request to confirm
the subscription request made earlier.
