[epub] Re: Autoresponders as a list hosting solution?
Dante,

If it is an announcement-only list, then yes, these
follow-up autoresponder services, like
http://www.GetResponse.com and
http://www.InfoGeneratorPro.com will work very well
for you.

Getresponse even has an unlimited message autoresponder
solution, which costs a fraction of what list hosting
services like sparklist or listserv cost.

But these services are no good if your list is a
discussion list.

Eventually, the best long term solution I've
found for myself is to form a relationship with your
ISP, and have a desktop solution like the gammadyne
mailer.

You can run your list from your desktop (or laptop)
computer. You can automate everything. And the
best part is that your solution becomes free,
because you are anyway paying to stay connected to
the Internet. Plus a dedicated list host cannot shut
down your list just because one forgetful (or plain
nasty) subscriber reported you to spamcop.

Get a fast dedicated connection (DSL/Cable)
and lo! - you are now a list host yourself, saving
hundreds of dollars every month!

And you can host unlimited discussion lists,
unlimited announcement lists, unlimited
autoresponders, and so on right from your home
computer.

(Oops..did I just spill out all my secrets? ;-)

There is a pretty informative software shoot-out
at http://cyberconnexions.com/ct/t.php?l=127 ,
comparing the likes of Lyris, MailLoop and Postmaster.
This will probably give you a better idea about
which solution suits your need the best.
