[epub] Re:How *not* to promote your e-publication
Dr Mani,

Do you realize you are now spamming the list here
with your ebook? There was no reason to mention
the name and put a link when discussing the
situation. By doing that you are spamming the list.

All you had to do was tell the spamming story without
have the first line of your comments be the web
address of your book.

Please learn some etiquette.

You are the reason people are sick of spammers
and reporting them daily to SpamCop.

If anyone wants info on SpamCop, let me know.
It works wonders. One complaint and the offending
party is shut down. No questions asked.

Try it. You'll like it.

Promoting my new ebook, "The Emotion Prism" <now available at
http://www.EmotionPrism.com > has been a rich learning experience.
Last week, I learned how easy it is to be branded a *spammer* !

Hoping to get some people to review my ebook before I offered
it to the public, I put together a list of those with whom I
had had previous discussions, asked for help, or interacted in
one way or the other over the years.

Of this list, I selected 35 close friends and asked them to
review my book. 28 agreed. I had some good critiques and
feedback, along with some nice comments.

Then I mailed a request out to the other 125 people on my list.
A few responded. A week later, I sent a reminder email to the
others.

One recipient was furious. He wrote me a stinging email, calling
me a spammer.

I was hurt. Tried explaining how we had exchanged ideas on a
related matter some years ago.

Got an even angrier email in reply.

Dazed, I sought the advice of someone I consider an expert on the
topic of *spam* - Paul Myers of TalkBizNews.com

Paul gave me a set of tips I'll not forget in a hurry - and that I'd
like to share with the group...

1. It is ok to contact someone you've had previous contact with,
provided it is about a topic that is relevant to them.

2. Never follow up on such a request with someone who you've not
been in touch with regularly

3. If the other person is angry, NEVER try to reason or explain
your position. Apologize and move on.

Golden words of wisdom that all of us would do well to follow
while promoting our ezines and ebooks.

Hope this helps

Mani
