[epub] URL publishing tip

Here's a tip I recently emailed to a publisher
and I thought I would pass it along to the list.
It has to do with URLs and would be of interest to
TEXT publishers. While it is a problem I see often,
I haven't seen it discussed and so I am here to
get the word out!

The publisher I emailed liked to include her URL
in her newsletter kind of like this:

~~~http://www.domain.com/~~~

Well, for some email clients that is a big no-no.
The trailing ~~~ becomes part of the URL and returns a
404 page error when clicked. I suggested she do it like
instead:

~~~ http://www.domain.com/ ~~~

She appreciated my suggestion and I suspect
she will make the change.

It is just a good formatting to never follow your
URL with characters which could become part of the
URL. I use this rule whether it's an everyday email
or a newsletter. Some people may wonder why I have a
space between a URL and the period at the end of a
sentence, but I know! ;) I would rather have them
wonder about that than fool around with a 404.
