For several years, I've been using "target=keyword", where the "keyword" is whatever word I'm emphasizing on a particular page - for search engine indexing purposes. e.g... You have a page whose subject is primarily about email newsletters, with "email newsletters" in the title and meta tags. For links which you want to open in new windows, do "target=email_newsletters". As far as I know, it doesn't hurt, and only seems to help with the keyword density in the page. Seems to work for me.
