[epub] Worldwide Lists - an update
An update in my continuing battle with Worldwide Lists. For any newbies
out there, I used Wordwidelists to get new subs from July 2001 through
Feb 2002. During that time I got tons of duplicate addys and about 75%
of the addies they sent me either bounced right off the bat or unsubbed
almost immediately, many after sending me nasty emails claiming they
never heard of me and I added them to my list without their knowledge or
permission. This all with me supposedly being double opt-in on WWL. In
mid-Feburary I cancelled my service in an email outlining my complaints.
All I got in response a few days later was a bland message saying my
contract gave them 10 days after cancelling to stop the service and it
would be stopped March 2nd. No mention of my complaints, despite their
promise to address any complaints within 24-48 hours. I ignored their
invoice and responded instead with a letter requesting help with my
complaints. It was ignored. At the recommendation of Joan on this
list, I enlisted the help of I-cop. They wrote a letter and it too was
ignored. That was a month or so ago.

Now to current times. On Thursday I got a demand to either pay the $186
or so I owe or be sued. On Friday I emailed them at every single
address I could locate for them requesting they answer my complaints as
the bad addies they consistently sent me (and I paid for) over the
months more than made up for the $186. In fact, I said in my letter, if
I were to pay for the actual good addresses sent to me as stated in my
contract, then I'd have paid for only about 25% at MOST of the amount I
paid them. I even threatened legal action myself. It is now Monday and
I'm at a loss as to what to do. I don't feel I should have to call long
distance to San Francisco just to get the runaround. I've even asked my
readers if anyone knows an online attorney who might help. And
tomorrow, when I put out another issue of my ezine, even though WWL is
far off the topic of my magazine, I plan on warning my readers away from
them. Any contact with them is totally one sided. They want their
money and that's it.
