[epub] Re: Getting Permission for an article
Maria,

Why don't you write the article yourself? Use your memory
of the topics covered in the article you read. First of all,
articles are madeup of ideas, and ideas cannot be copywrited
or patented.

Second, the writer of the article you are talking about got the
idea for the article from deep inside his memory. I assume the
article you are referring to categorized businesses as "startup",
"youthful", "mature", and 'old age". I read an article like this in a
marketing textbook in 1974. Haven't heard or read anything on the
subject since then.

If you feel guilty about writing an article based upon somebody
else's article, change the "slant", which is a journalism term I
haven't heard in 30 years.

Slant refers to the approach used in the article. In this case,
change the slant to something as cleaver as "business demo-
graphics". The slant would be that businesses have demographics
the same as target markets have demographics.

A family owned, 50 year old company, will operate differently
than a small corporation which has been in business 50 years.
A startup company will operate differently and have different goals
than a 5-year-old company, etc.

Besides, I know you can present the subject as well as did the
writer of that article - and I haven't read the article.
