EPUB Archives [Thread Prev][Thread Next][Thread][epub] Re: Accused of Spam
Hello David, This guy is just another nobody with nothing better to do! Here's one we received a few weeks back. [See below] It presented no real threat or problem. However, it appears menacing and I can see how it would frighten a lot of publishers. But, we don't worry about these nobodies, as we keep excellent records. Take a look at this: [If you want to see our reply, just let me know] James ----- Original Message ----- From: "INFORM AMERICA!" <@informamerica.com> To: "The Oyesucan Ezine" <admin@oyesucan.com> Sent: Sunday, July 07, 2002 9:59 AM Subject: REMOVE -- Your spam operation has been reported to Federal authorities and INTERPOL *** LEGAL NOTICE TO JUNK MAIL SPAMMER *** A copy of your unsolicited spam e-mail has been sent bcc: to the following: (1) The bulk electronic mail abuse office at the Federal Communications Commission; (2) The electronic mail fraud unit at the Department of Justice; (3) The consumer fraud investigation division at the Federal Trade Commission: (4) The criminal investigation unit at INTERPOL. *** YOUR OFFENSE *** (1) Willfully transmitting unsolicited, crass and commercial e-mail to an address that never "opted in" or subscribed to your list. I have received my normal 5 unsubs and 2 new subs after it went out. In addition, I received a call (on my toll free number) from a guy who wanted to know why I was spamming him. He told me he had not signed up for the newsletter and insisted that he be removed. He informed me that "he" did not unsub to spam and that I need to remove his name. I asked for his email address and he said that was for me to figure out and referred me to Spamcop. Of course, I now have his phone number (or at least the phone number from where he called) and have found his name and address. I have a shot as finding his email address, if it has the same domain as his website. This is a guy who has taken the time to either pull up my newsletter (I send a PDF link) and/or visit my website, look up my toll free phone number, AND call me. With what little information I had to go on, I was able to find a website address associated with his name. When I contacted my list manager, he was able to find a very recent subscriber with that domain name. He was removed immediately (within 2 hours of his call). I have been sending my newsletter out for over a year now and this is the first time ANYTHING like this has occurred. Any suggestions as to what I should be bracing myself for from this guy?
