EPUB Archives [Thread Prev][Thread Next][Thread][epub] Re: Accessibility
Ok, I hope I can finish up this (off)topic with the following list of
accessibility resources.
Section 508 Final Rule --
http://www.section508.gov/index.cfm?FuseAction=Content&ID=12
American Federation for the Blind - Designing an Accessible Web Site --
http://www.afb.org/info_document_view.asp?DocumentID=1449
IBM Accessibility Center --
http://www-3.ibm.com/able/
JAWS (Screen Reader) --
http://www.freedomscientific.com/fs_downloads/jaws.asp
Section508.gov
W3C Accessibility Guidelines --
http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG10/
W3C Accessibility Checklist --
http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG10/full-checklist.html
There are other organizations and tools---these are the ones that I have
personally used. I've also seen reports from the LIFT accessibility
checker, but don't have their URL offhand. You can also run pages
through the Lynx browser as a test... Scanning through all the messages
in the Google group alt.comp.blind-users can also yield some good clues.
Making web sites accessible requires dilligence, patience, time, and a
fairly good understanding of how web pages and browswers really work.
That's not to scare anyone who wants to try---only to say be prepared to
spend some time getting up to speed.
Good luck!
Mark
