Janet, I think the idea of providing quality content is being lost with the 
ever more persistent and time-consuming requirements of dealing with 
spam-related subscription and delivery problems.

Sooner or later, publishers will need to realize that focusing on delivery 
requires having something to be delivered.

This idea may not qualify as an entry into the "best practices" journal, 
but quality content, quality from the recipient's point of view, may be the 
best delivery insurance. If the content is truly wanted, it will be missed 
if it's inadvertently filtered as spam. It will be white listed when the 
subscriber chooses to move their email box behind a spam firewall. And if 
the publication stops arriving for whatever reason, the subscriber has 
incentive to investigate.
